The short version: no activity answers, trial information, or score are sent to the research database unless you choose the optional research contribution and press Submit. Research contribution is a separate, clearly labelled step offered after your result (when the research module is active), and the records it creates are coded: they contain no name or contact details, but linked submissions from the same browser can be recognised, so we do not call them completely anonymous.
Your responses are processed in your browser. Your score is shown only to you, the PDF report is created on your own device, and no answers, scores, or selections are saved in browser storage. Closing or reloading the page erases the session. No research request is made by opening, completing, or downloading the result of the activity.
No name or contact details are requested. After your result you may be offered an optional research contribution. If, and only if, you say yes and press the submission button, we save your test results and your answers to a few short click-only questions (age range, gender, language background, device category, earphone type and wired/wireless (never brand or model), room conditions, and four hearing questions) together with technical details of the session (activity and audio version, broad operating-system and browser family, audio sample rate, date and time, a random session label) and a one-way hashed browser identifier used to recognise repeat submissions. This data may be used for research purposes, including developing and validating this activity, and reported only in aggregated or coded form. If you do not say yes, nothing is saved. Full details: Participant Information.
We never store your name, phone, email, date of birth, address, precise location, earphone brand/model, free text, or your IP address in the research database. Records are kept on secure cloud infrastructure with access restricted to the study team for the duration of the research programme. If you prefer not to contribute but have questions, simply email us.
If this browser has contributed, you can delete every record linked to it:
The activity and the research module are intended for adults (18+); no children's personal data is knowingly processed.
